It’s been a busy off season with both the football and netball departments selecting new senior coaches for 2017. Congratulations to Nathan Phillips as the senior football coach and Sam George as the senior netball coach. Congratulations to Sam and the Kilmore 1 girls taking out the Section 5 premiership in their first year in the competition. The club welcomes Ben Vincent on board as the reserves coach and would also like to recognise the efforts of Dave ‘Pugs’ Milne who stands down as President, after several years of hard work and guiding the club into the NFL.
Nathan Phillips has worked extremely hard since his appointment, putting together a competitive list and having them well drilled and fit for the 2017 season. After seeing the host of new recruits and talented young locals in action during the practice matches, I believe the senior footballers will be highly competitive this year. We welcome big Brad Kite to the club along with Leigh Irons, Wade Zolnierczyk, Matt Bulluss, Billy McKeown, Luke Chapman and Lachlan Gough.
On a disappointing note, the club was unable to field an under 19 team this season. Although a lot of hard work was put in by Tom Snaith, it is apparent that attracting young men to play football these days is a tough challenge. It’s not just a problem that Kilmore faces, with work and other interests taking young players away from the game. We are excited to have the Kilmore Junior Football Club join us in the NFL, but for this year it has impacted on our under 19’s, as the junior club now has an under 17 team, limiting players graduating to the senior club.
The netballers have been working hard in the off season and we anticipate fielding several highly competitive teams. Congratulations to Laura Corrick on taking out the Section 5 goal shooting award for 2016. Unfortunately, Laura has moved interstate and will be a great loss to the club.
All the best to everyone involved at the club in 2017 and go Blues!
